What does ANDO stand for?

It stands for A New Day Organisation.

What is ANDO’s purpose?

ANDO - modular aid seeks to create sustainable surgical access for communities in Africa.

ANDO is not another surgical charity - it is a new concept of modular aid based around building local capacity in developing nations.

Countries like Uganda have historically been challenged by an underfunded health care sector, and ANDO saw a need to create a dedicated facility in Jinja to specifically meet the need of surgical care across burns, congenital diseases and trauma.

Fundamental to ANDO’s modular aid module is sustainability. We partner with local NGO’s on projects that are needed by the community, and have developed a financially viable and long term solution to the surgical access problems experienced in Africa.

Why should I support ANDO?

With the 96 surgeries performed so far, we have provided life changing outcomes for our patients that will enable them to live a happier and healthier life. In addition to this, we have partnerships in Uganda and Germany and have a proven track record of action and utilising our funds to make an impact in African communities.

Where do my donations go?

Your generous donation will go directly to funding our Jinja Clinic, which is a hospital that provides elective surgical services for burns, congenital malformation, cancer surgery and trauma surgery. We are currently raising $65,000, this will allow us to cover all the costs and fund the hospital for one full year. Thus, your donations is allowing for our hospital to provide life changing surgeries for all of 2023.

How can my organisation support ANDO?

Why do acid attacks happen?

Did you know that in Uganda 3 out of 4 people are aware acid and burn violence and 1 in 5 know of an acid burn and violence victim? Acid attacks is a crime that is pervasive in Uganda, and is currently on the rise. This crime is not well recorded due to the attached stigma.

Acid can be stored in a plastic bottle and sold at prices as cheap as cooking oil. Acid is meant to be for industrial use only, however, it is currently being sold like any other commodity. As such, acid is viewed as a cheap weapon by perpetrators, and unlike a weapon such as a gun, you cannot trace acid to the buyer.

Currently acid is not being regulated in Uganda, as acid sellers do not have permits and acid buyers are not asked for any documents. As such, there is a need for specific acid laws as the guidelines are unclear and not implemented. Countries including Bangladesh, India and Pakistan have developed specific laws following strategic litigation for toxic chemicals such as acid.

What is an electrical burn and how do they occur?

Electrical burns are one of the most severe kinds of burns as it goes below the surficial layer and can destroy the muscle and/or nerves, leading into organ failures and other serious health implications.
